The Most Expensive Television Shows of All Time, Ranked

13. Fringe – $4 Million per Episode

Fox never became a ratings hit with Fringe, despite it being an ambitious serialized sci-fi mystery show. Fringe was supposed to be the X-Files for a new generation, according to Fox. The larger mythology and great-looking episodes of Fringe even made some believe it surpassed its predecessor. There was never a real return on Fox's investment... You may not have watched the show, but it focuses on a fictional FBI branch using "fringe science" to solve crimes and mysteries. Obviously, all that doesn't come cheap, so each episode costs about $4 million to produce. In addition, Fox spent $10 million on Fringe's feature-length pilot.
