The Most Expensive Television Shows of All Time, Ranked

9. Rome – $9 Million per Episode

HBO and Netflix seem to be competing to make the most expensive TV shows. Television series set in ancient times are often the most expensive to produce, as you've probably noticed. Because these series are most likely to lose money, the production company must be extremely confident in their story. Since HBO's Rome depicted Julius Caesar's era and beyond, it struck a chord with many people. Rome, however, costs $9 million per episode. It wasn't an easy decision for HBO to cancel the show after two great seasons. Despite his short time, Rome accomplishes a lot. Rome also proves that not every show has to run for years.
