It will always be remembered as the first Netflix original series! It's a remake of a British television show, so "original" is a strong word. Netflix's House of Cards, however, cost millions of dollars as opposed to its British counterpart.
There are times when expensive TV shows do not have anything to do with production design. It is common for the budget to increase due to the involvement of those involved with the show. One of the best examples of this is House of Cards. As part of its first show, Netflix recruited A-listers like David Fincher, Kevin Spacey, and Robin Wright. The streaming service had to pay $4.5 million for each episode of House of Cards.
