The expiration date will undoubtedly be written on the front of the mothball bag. Most mothballs last two to three months when used, after which they begin to degrade.

Their rate of dissolution is influenced by temperature and humidity. These insect-fighters transform into gas as they combine with the ambient air. After storage, fumes frequently cling to clothes, so you'll need to air them out and wash them to remove the odor. But it's much simpler to do that than to seal holes caused by insects.
