Another well-known culinary myth is that potato chips were likewise invented by accident. A patron was enjoying a meal at a restaurant in 1853 where one of the specialties was French fries. This customer said the fries were overly thick and expressed dissatisfaction with them. The finicky diner voiced dissatisfaction once more when the chef prepared thinner fries. The chef became so irate that he simply sliced a potato thinly and deep-fried it. To his amazement, the picky eater adored the last course!And cheese puffs were originally made of trash! Edward Wilson observed some oozing maize in one of the machines at an animal food facility back in the 1930s. The ribbons baffled Wilson, so he brought them home and attempted to season them. In addition, he saw that the puffed corn solidified in the presence of air. The trial proved successful, and the snack became well-known worldwide!There are a variety of origin stories for chocolate chip cookies. There is a story about a lady who ran out of baker's chocolate and chose to use some plain, broken-up semi-sweet chocolate in its place. She assumed it would simply melt into the batter uniformly.
