The Most Expensive Television Shows of All Time, Ranked

14. Vinyl – $7.5 Million per Episode

Here's another period piece! Among HBO's biggest financial and creative disappointments, Vinyl is one of its most disappointing projects. Though Vinyl had a great deal of potential, it was never able to live up to its potential. The show tells the gritty story of rock and roll and the music industry in New York City in the 1970s. As a result, the show created a lot of expenses for HBO, with little viewership to show for it. According to reports, the ten-episode season had a budget of $100 million. In addition, the Martin Scorsese-directed pilot cost about $30 million. Therefore, each episode still costs $7.5 million. HBO cancelled Vinyl after its first season, deciding it wasn't worth the price.
