11. Marco Polo – $9 Million per Episode

A lot of Netflix's riskier investments were assumed to pay off in the end when Marco Polo came along. I guess that wasn't entirely accurate. In Marco Polo, the titular character is portrayed as romantically adventurous, but most people didn't find it exciting enough.
Considering the period in which the series is set, it was definitely one of the most expensive series of its time. Kublai Khan and his warring empire in the 1200s were depicted accurately by Marco Polo. Netflix spent about $9 million per episode on authenticity! The streaming service lost nearly $200 million despite this. Netflix seems to have learned from their mistakes!
