7. The Get Down – Between $11 and $16 Million per Episode

Sometimes working with creative geniuses pays off, but sometimes the results are a complete disaster. Earlier this year, Netflix recruited Baz Luhrmann, director of Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! to create his own series. So, as you might expect, Luhrmann decided to go for a musical fueled series that tells the story of the birth of hip-hop in the 1970s in New York, titled The Get Down. However, Luhrmann’s vision for this project continued to grow in size, eventually coming to a head with Netflix. While the first few episodes cost around $11 million, somewhere along the way, the budget grew closer to $16 million per episode. At that point, Netflix decided to stop the production and re-examine the series. Before long, they canceled The Get Down, only releasing what they had.
