6.Glee – $3.2 Million per Episode
You or your children probably grew up watching Glee if you grew up in the 2000s. It was a massive hit with fans thanks to its incredible musical numbers and human drama. While Glee adapted modern hits for their show tunes, the covers have led to tons of iTunes downloads. For the most Billboard Hot 100 appearances, Glee even beat the Beatles. As a result, the show was able to recover some of its massive costs.
Each episode of Glee cost around $3.2 million to produce. The majority of that money was used to pay the stars' salaries. In contrast, Glee faced a cost that most shows did not: lots of music licensing fees. Four to twelve popular songs appear in a typical episode, and each one must be licensed.
