It isn't usually the first thought to associate lung health with diet, but what we eat can have a powerful impact on our lung function. Bananas contain high potassium levels, which can help to support your lung function.
We need potassium in order to keep our lungs healthy and functioning correctly, according to Lisa Richards, nutritionist and author of The Candida Diet. Based on a study, the publication explained, "Consuming enough potassium, particularly as a child, helps to increase lung function and capacity."
Chronic lung conditions may also benefit from bananas. Researchers found that individuals who ate healthier diets, including bananas, had fewer symptoms and improved lung function (via WebMD), according to a study examining the effects of diet on those living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Despite the fact that bananas alone won't necessarily make a big difference, bananas as part of a varied and nutritious diet and as a good source of potassium might.
